Cost Of Faux Finish
For a 2 story family room (16 x12) what is the going rate for a Faux finish? What about a dinning room say 12 x 13?
I had some guys come out and give me rates that I thought they were sucking on the tail pipe on the way over. |

Re: Cost Of Faux Finish
Some of the best faux finish painters down here in New Orleans do suck on tail pipes. I think that limp wrist gives them an advantage.

Re: Cost Of Faux Finish
For the dining room, we would like to use Cracked Marble or Ragging.
In the two story room, we would like a accent wall finished with Colorwashing. The guys said that the faux finishes required a base coat in one color and then the faux effect in a second coat/color. Finally, our in our office, we would like a suede finish, but we did not receive a quote for that yet. Any thoughts? Thanks |

Re: Cost Of Faux Finish
Those are pretty straight forward finishes and should be on the lower end price wise. Like all painting, its a regional price. If they are new to the business they tend to think that those finishes are art! You might need a different base coat depending on the colors you picked. The ragging might be a little more cause it is a little more labor intensive. The suede and colorwash are quick (in my opinion) and shouldnt be more than than the cost again of what a quality painter would charge for a basecoat.

Re: Cost Of Faux Finish
I have a variety of answers for this, but one that seems to work is think of the time it takes... For me some finishes might be twice as much as what I charge to paint. Although most faux work scoots along fairly quickly, it carry's with it the extra stress of just doing it in the first place.
As small room might take 4 hours (total) to complete 2 coats... Add to that about 8 hours for the faux... |
