Cost Estimator?

I decided to try using the Cost Estimator again.

This seems really high to me. Please tell me what you think:

Example: 1000 sq' ceiling:

TSP - $420.00

Patching 25 sq' - $580.43

1 coat prime, 2 coats paint - $1,920.00

Total Bid Price - $2,920.43

Did I do something wrong?

if you know your actual labor rates including overhead you can plug in your own labor values there. Also is that including the default 50% markup for 33% profit? I'm still subscribed over there but i hardly ever use it anymore. You also have to be careful your not including the scope of the work twice. Read the scope description in the sub category to see if the TSP and patchwork is already included in the scope of work for painting.

I dunno- $3/SF to paint a ceiling sounds like a bit much to me, but if it includes washing the ceiling with TSP, 25 SF of patches (whatever that means), as well as protecting all of the contents of the house during the process, maybe it's not so bad.

I am in Houston, Tx. I am going to paint 4 rooms with a total of 1664 s.f on walls. ceilings 680 s.f. I will charge $ 908 for one coat or $ 1,360 per two coats. I am ok or I need to change the bid. I want to be on a market price not overcharge, but not too low too.

I dunno, price seems in line if it includes O&P and based on how much patching is required within your 25'. I ran your numbers through Clear Estimates, have adapted that program to suit my quotes. It ran:

TSP - $420.00 My quote $200.00
Patching 25 sq' - $580.43 My quote $407.00
1 coat prime, 2 coats paint - $1,920.00 My quote $1120.00

Plus O&P $663.86
Total of Quote $2,411.00 Rounded

Your Total Bid Price - $2,920.43

Sound a little high. You have to pay a lot of attention to complete all form with total accuracy, one mistaken number and all goes wrong.

ok forget the tsp and patches, if you got a new texture ceile 1000 sf you saying about 1800 or 1.80 is what the cost estimator is stating?

i bought one of the estimators and yes, there is 20 variable and 10 magic codes,

if your talking 1000 sf
let say i cover the walls and floors and remove fans,
spray a primer, next day morning 1 coat finish, and 1 coat finish after lunch
and then the next put it back together and clean up, thats about 20 hours with 2 guys. my bid roughly 1300 with all material included.

obviously were talking example here, but for comparison there you go, now im not a big crew or whatever but my example is looking at worst cas its a small 50s style house so its all divided up in bedrroms, 3 fans, 2 lights, furniture and such to cover, and assuming for some reason i had to protect the walls and keep a clean cut line... im nomally round .5 psf existing and .9 psf new plus mats
