Correct Paint For Azek/PVC Trim Boards??

I am a finish carpenter and work with Azek and similar materials often. I do not usually paint all of my work. The job I have currently will require my painting as it is not big, but it is right at the front door. What paint is to be used on PVC materials. Behr premium plus ultra says it will. Any other suggestions?

Interior or exterior? Exterior I always use BM Softgloss on my trim and it is 'alkyd fortified' maybe that makes the difference but I can always paint in one coat unless the color is not white, then 2 coats. Interior I would prime first then you should be all set to use whatever you want....except Behr.

It is exterior. The reason for the the work is the original stile and rail panels 2x8' in the front entry are rotting and they are not old. The house faces the prevailing wind on the top of a hill. Hence the Azek. BM, I am not a painter, which brand is that?

That Behr won't even stick to the ground on a high gravity day w/o some adhesive
Lol...

Regarding painting Azek:
Most of the literature so far has been on Sherwin Williams Paints and their Duration and Super Paint lines
They worked together on it in the early years, so in return Azek spec'd SW at first
More recently, Azek has stated in their literature Pittsburgh Manor Hall and Ben Moore Moorglo Softgloss is also OK

I have used SW Duration, P's manor Hall, and BM's Moorglo with success

The key is to make sure that the Azek is super clean....use a solvent if need be
And two thin coats (not like you can do it thick anyway...it'll slide right off) of careful application and you should be fine
But you have to be careful...the paint doesn't really want to stick

A primer is not called for in Azek's spec's as I recall, but I suppose it couldn't hurt
I've never used one

Re: Correct Paint For Azek/PVC Trim Boards??

With azek i usually sand with 220, 320, or 180 and then dust off. Then i clean the azek surface well with acetone- you can use xylol or wilbond and the first time i painted the stuff i did and i wont again.

Then there are several primers i have used- the first house i painted azek trim on in 2002 i filled the nail holes with dap (stainless steel finish nails they used) then gave a full coat coverstain, then 2 coats BM softgloss. It still looks great. Next few places i have used either 1-2-3 or UMA, both seem to work well but i give the edge to 1-2-3 and that is what use now. I use aquaglaze to fill the nail holes nowadays though i think dap is better. Also, i use GE's XST caulking to fill seams and cracks. A real pain to work with but a great product.
