Re: Company Name

Not that I know off

However, as you most likely need to register in your town to start your business, and they won't let you register a name that's the same as another, similar service, that's one way to find out
(they let you know if it's taken)

I'd also do a thorough "Google" and/or other web search
And all the local telephone books (some have many), white and yellow

Re: Company Name

In addition to above, you're probably looking at an LLC. When you register that with the state, they'll check for conflicts. In fact, that's a good way to check in your state. At least that's the way it is here in VA

edit: I operate my pier building under my name also like below. Poor but proud.

It's limited liablility company. My wife is itching to have me switch since she found out about it. She is hooked on the idea that it's safer should anything happen where someone is coming after my assets. I'm getting around to it, after all it's only $60.

I am a huge fan of using part of your name for your company. I use my last name. I love the idea that right away people know who I am. I truly believe I get a lot of work from using my last name because it's much more personal and people get that.

Ditto man, when I started 3+ years ago I knew I had to use my last name especially since I started as a DBA and still am. I think that LLC is the way to go though.

I use my last as well, Sharp. So when I give people my card, they see my logo first then my full name and they always compliment me. I think Sharp Improvements is wayyy catchier that Norman Improvements ()

wifey told me it is set by each state, so I guess maybe here it's wicked cheap or maybe it's just $60 initially and then they hit you for more...not sure.

Re: Company Name

Try and go to your local federal building in your biggest cities or counties court facilities to register your new business name. You can set up as an LLC, Incorporation, and or a Sole Proprietorship
Sole Proprietor is the easiest they will still give you a tax ID# and all or you just can use your Social Seceurity # But Nobody will be able to use the unique name you give your co. I have oprated under my own name and under a unique name both make sure its catchy where people remember you easily and want your bid...
Remember Sole Proproprietors take the most risk because you are responsible for everything, Incorporation means you have a Pres., VP ,and Secretary. LLC you have to make a payroll for yourself and keep the jobs rolling easily enough to make it work for you to keep your own expected payroll up as well as others and the rest is dumped into the co. see what suits you but I always start out as a Sole Proprietorship and take all the risk it takes to get it goin....
