colorscapes

I'm not familiar with BM colorscapes paint. How does it compare to to Aqua Velvet?

Customer wants eggshell, and I'm thinking Aqua Velvet might not come in a base that will take the deep tints for accent walls.

Anyone know the retail price of Aqua Velvet and CS?

Thanks in advance.

If you talk to people in the industry they will tell you that colorscapes is BM's Superhide in a nicer label. They discontinued it in IL some time ago. I wouldn't use it unless your looking for a cheap paint. If you want something close to BM's Velvet try there SuperSpec Line.

Thanks Mak, I went to the BM site and checked the eggshell line.

Am wanting to use Aqua for everything. Going over frazee, new construction.

In this town Ace or True Value don't carry BM! I can't believe it. The other stores are all closed, so I had to check the BM site.

I did see the superspec line. It's all up to the customer, I'm just chasing down the info for them. How much does Aqua go for these days?

In IL Velvet is 25$ - 30$ depending on your dealer and how much you buy from them etc... One thing I always didn't like that Moore's had a tint charge or more for bases etc.

All tho haven't used it in a few years, use Superspec or P&L

I have used BM for about 16 years now. My Grandfather has used it since about 1935. The aquavelvet line is ok until you get into the deeper colors and then it is like spreading mud. I am not big on cutting paint with additives if I can help it, but it might help. The only line I use is the Regal Matte. It has less sheen although more than a flat. It is very easy to scrub clean if you get a mark on the walls. I like it better than the SW matte line called Duration.

Agree, I like the regal line, don't even think they carry velvet here... least they don't say they do.

I use Aqua glo on trim and doors if asked to, but prefer Murallo waterborne on all trim and doors for Interior

I like Aqua Pearl, but it is a glossy paint that shows up imperfections.

Aqua Velvet can at times get kinda muddy feeling if the color is too dark

Regal Matte is my choice from BM is the wall department on repaints.

Regal wall satin was what we used in custom homes because the builders refuse to use any sheen on their dimpled walls.

Exterior wood I always use Moorglo on wood and doors.
Stucco I always use ben moore waterproofing.

I have other suggestions from other companies as well if you care to ask.

Heh, no... I use what the customer wants... don't get too much of a chance to use moore much, mostly SW or Porter/Pitts. Even one large 160k+ subdivision speced American Traditions... (lowes). Moore is along the lines of the designers and such here.

AquaVelvet is part of the Regal line
< shrugs >
Anyway....
Well, they are confusing
Calling their flat "Wall Satin" etc...

...lol

There is no national retail price

Mostly BM is carried by independent retailers and can vary

It does dark pretty well, I have no problem with it for darks

The only thing that might be a bit better is Sherman Villhelm's Deep Colors
I'm a Ben Moore kinda guy, but that Deep Colors is pretty spectacular for those...deep colors

Customer e-mailed me and said to figure $41/gal.

Was just trying to cover all bases, this job will be 7 different accents and custom colors as well as a common color.

The customer is totally responsible for the purchase and delivery, as per their request. They just wanted me to bust it out for them.
I don't have the job yet.

Heh, there's a grand total of 1 BM dealer in all of las vegas.

There's 2 more in outlying towns.

I'll have to check out SW deep colors. Not aware of that one either. But man, their ColorAccent line is an awesome paint for deep tints.

"if you come across as the kind of guy who'll do anything, you'll have to"
I have, do and will! I need variety.

May be the same thing
I've heard it called two different things in different regions
And I always call it the wrong thing
Deep Accents, Deep Colors....

Color accents is why I thought BM colorscapes would be the deep tint base.

LOL, wallsatin. I've done that. There used to be a glidden paint with a similar name, and I did it with that too. If you dont normally work with that paint, it's an easy way to get tripped up.

if my memory serves me right colorscapes didn't make it to the base 4 which is mores deepest base. All tho they have names now for their bases.

Years ago BM had a line of paint which was called "Enhance" which today would translate to Superhide and or Colorscapes. Either way I wouldn't use it on a job.

when I first got into painting BM had a contractor grade called pro vinyl. Anyone remember that line? I believe it later was replaced by prosaver.
