Clear UV Protective Deck Finish.

I have a customer looking for a completely clear finish for a boat dock he is building. It needs to have UV inhibitors (I know it's not as good as having pigment) and it needs to be waterborne since the dock will be installed prior to application. It also needs to be a non-associated brand. No Ben Moore or SW products for example. I've looked into a few like Napier but I have no idea if any of these products are worth using. This is a big money job and I can't convince him to go with a pigmented product so I have to find something decent that meets his specs. Any input is appreciated.

I have yet to find a clear worth anything. How quickly is he willing to accept graying? As you already know pigment is what inhibits UV damage. I have never sealed with a clear though I have had about 200 people ask for it. You can usually use a golden tinted product and dilute it. It doesn't last long but definitely longer than a clear. We distribute Baker's Gray Away and they have an excellent oil based clear if this guy is really adamant about it. Shoot me a pm and I can put you in touch with Baker's.

Not sure if it still made. Flood made a product for wood docks and I believe it came in a clear call Flood Spa.

I've never used this particular product, but I have used nearly all of the other Sealoflex products with great success. Look it over http://sealoflex.com/node/195

Flood Spa and Deck was my first thought but again, no clear, only toned colors. I've taken a look at the Bakers product. What worries me about this is using an oil product on a surface that is already built on the water. From everything I've been told an acrylic should work better on a surface that has above average moisture in it at all times.

I'll look into Sealodeck.

I also have found no true clear with UV protection
(though you will find a few labeled as 'clear')

Acrylics + water = peeling. Stay with an oil/alkyd. Something that cures. Maybe Shane from Texas will jump in here. He does a ton of docks and always uses Baker's. I've done two docks in my life so I don't want to pretend to be an authority.

I'll keep that in mind. We'll further check into Bakers. Sealodeck looks decent as well.
