Check Out My New Website!

Now it's still under construction... cuz I'm so freakin anal. It will be months before it's tweeked to perfection. Evey page will have a slide show that depicts the type of work that page offer's, right now just the powerwashing page has one, takes a minute to load (were working on it)
so let me know what you think......

...who's "were"....are you doing it yourself? If so, can you recommend a better program than I use? I use yahoo sitebuilder and it's ok, but I need something better.

Looks good.....but....under Historic Restoration, I thought someone else painted that house? (Marthas Vineyard?) Or am I confused? Also if you add those slide shows and its slow, people wont stay.

Re: Check Out My New Website!

Well I like the site, I have been in the market lately for a site. I had one in 1992 when I stated out and let me tell you most of my customers back then didn't know what a computer was at the time. I let it go due to cost long ago but have thought about getting back into it. I email most of my proposals in pdf format now.

Maybe a nice website would be good.

Sounds like the guy copied text off of my website that I wrote with minimal changes. This is the second time this week I've seen something from my website in use elsewhere.

amauri,
I decided when I first came in here to not list my website or personal information. It's a personal decision, take no offense to it. If I was more like Pressure, I'd say PM me for all my personal secrets, but I'm not. Maybe I'll change my mind at some point, but for now Paintguy remains partially anonymous.

Re: Check Out My New Website!

Kelly, I only mentioned the historic photo cause it makes it look like you did it. If the Real company that did it were to see it there, they can go to your hosting company and have your site removed. Or stir krap for you. No biggy, just know it happens. In the decorative paint world it goes on all the time. And they get shut down.

Ya, I hear you..... but I havent decided on the pic for that page yet...just sent him a folder with random pics i had...and that one was placed during construction.Ya I agree with you with the wait on the slide show... too long going to go with one pic for each page.(thanxs)...

AAPaint: Ya, there are influences from your site, I sent a link to it as a reference...it was one of the ones I liked the best... Took allot from ralph lauren also, if there is anything you want removed or reworded let me know!

AA, hell my promotional material says the same things just with "windows" or "decks". There are only so many ways to say we are the best and we use the best.

Re: Check Out My New Website!

Yeah, I understand that, but I wrote that text off the top of my head. I didn't copy it and add in a couple of words. Those are my words. It could be written a hundred different ways...but this way in particular is what I did personally.

I don't mean any offense by it, but it's quite annoying to keep finding my stuff copied everywhere. I mean, I'm flattered, really....but I had to do the work to make that up. I wrote and revised it many times to get it to where it is, and to see it copied (nearly) verbatim is annoying.

Keep in mind this isn't the first time. Last time it was my whole website by another painter. Yesterday, I found my request form was RIPPED from my site and copied exactly. They forgot to remove my phone number, but everything else is the same. I get a call from someone looking for STContractors. Turns out, they just copied my whole web form and used it for their site. ANOTHER item I made up entirely on my own.

When I did my website originally, I got ideas everywhere. The difference is, I took those ideas and wrote my own text, created my own form (which was a major pain) and built the original site all on my own.

It's very disheartening to see your hard work simply ripped and slightly changed to make it easy on someone else. His web guy should come up with his own text, not just copy mine and say "ta-da! Look how fabulous your site is now!" when he didn't do anything but fill in a template with my work. Changing a word or two here and there was probably the hardest part for him.

This is getting to be a constant thing with my website, and I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just tired of it already.

Can't anyone write their own stuff? Especially if the guy is getting paid for it. What is the point of paying him to rip other peoples sites? That is easily done for free. How does the web guy get off acting like a professional knowing he stole my text?

I like KellyPainting, he's good people. I'm just not cool with the web guy using my text. How do you say that without sounding like a jerk?
