Changing Sheen On Varnished Trim

I am starting a job this week where the customer wants the trim varnished a different sheen. The trim is in good shape and is varnished to a semi maybe even a gloss. Should I sand like I would between coats or should I use a deglosser or both. I will be using a satin or low luster to recoat. Thanks Mike

I would sand it with 320 or so,dust or vacuum and apply the new varnish.

Deglosser can lift fresh paint or varnish.
