Chain Link Fence

I got this idiot idea to paint my chain link fence as if I don't have more importent stuff to do. It has some surface rust in places.
Not sure where to start. prep? what to use? how to apply?
An appeal to the experts for advice...

Re: Chain Link Fence

If the rust isnt too bad, wire brush or drill/wire wheel it off. Spot prime those areas with rust inhibitor. Spraying loses 3/4 of your material, so I roll 'em. Get a pair of jeans/shoes that you can throw away when done, and lay a drop on both sides of the fence. Use a 1" or larger nap, and slather it on. Smack the roller in all the nooks and crannies as you go. The larger nap will sling around and get the other side of the fence too, but its better to have a second guy come along about 10' behind you (on the other side) and kinda dry-roll it to get all the drips/runs, and cover the areas you missed. After rolling go back with a brush, and hit all the little spots in corners and whatnot you missed with the roller.

Re: Chain Link Fence

Reminds me of the guy that paints lines on the road... first week he painted two miles, second week one, third week 1/2... foreman asked what was wrong and he said "further I go, the bucket is farther away".

Electrostatic paint sprayer or replace the chain link. Problably quicker and easier to strech new chain link.
