Cedar Deck Prep Problems

Hi,

I am about to restain/seal a cedar deck. The deck apppears to have a stain on it but the customer is insisting that only clear cwf was used on the deck. My concern is there are sections that have been worn down to the bare wood that have no sealer/stain left on them. They are much lighter than the rest of the deck. If I go ahead and put the clear stain/sealer on will it match the rest of the deck color wise? Also what would be the prep work required for this deck?

Ever since CWF switch formulas years ago I think its crap now. If CWF is on there clear or not my opinion it would have to come off completely in order to achieve uniform coloring of new finish/sealer

Dude your a painter.. you know your finish is only as good as its weakest link. What would happen if you went right over flaking paint?

What's on there needs to come off, the whole thing should acid cleaned/pH balanced AFTER it is stripped and cleaned with a good cleaning agent and very low pressure. Tha will even everyhting out, then you can talk the customer into some oil based pigmented sealer to provide a little UV protection and condition what I'm sure is some very dry wood.
