Caulking Hollow Metal Frames

Do most professionals painters caulk the top miters on metal door jams? They split right back open immediatly the contractor asked us to bondo them originaly wasnt sure if there is an easier or more practical way to fill the cracks at the top without bondo?

We leave them as is. In the past we have used Bondo and caulk but they seem to always crack or split again.

We always caulk them. Funny thing, the last job we did all we caulked was the 45's.......the drywallers were required to caulk the jam to the wall! And they caulked like drywallers! .....I think one guy used his elbow to caulk a few jams....

We always caulk, even if it splits, it's still a much smaller opening than the original.
