Caulking Before Painting

How do you go about charging for caulking on trim or various areas. Would you just estimate the time and materials it would take you, caulked for 8 hours at 40 dollars an hour = $320. Is this right or is there a different way to do this. Appreciate any help.

Re: Caulking Before Painting

Pretty much. If that's all your doing, then that is one hell of a lot of caulking. I don't really see any different way to do it. A whole day's work costs you the same regardless what kind of work it is..

Re: Caulking Before Painting

Appreciate the help guys. Yeah, my finger was pretty much done. I actually spent 2 full days caulking, me and one other guy. We were prepping to paint 23 square of Hardie Plank, of which, at the most is supposed to have 1/8 inch gaps but thats where it would bump up against wood. The gaps should be even smaller than that. The gaps we were caulking where the Hardie Plank meets the corner boards were up to and sometimes over an inch.

Ok, please, please tell me you are caulking just the ends? Is this lap siding we're talking about? Please tell me you only caulked the ends!

You know how many houses I've seen where the paint is sheeting off the siding because some idiot caulked the bottom of each and every row of siding?

Re: Caulking Before Painting

Yeah, it is just the ends. I couldn't imagine caulking underneath each and every board.
