we did a large new spec w unfinished birch cabs in poly w hvlp.

Had no other work at the time...

WAY underbid it.

I would say labor is 3-4 times more difficult once installed than when in the shop.

... Only a cheapskate of a general would buy unfinished cabs, trying to save a few cents... then try to grind on the ptrs to finish them later.

As you figure your bid, carefully consider the time involved in EACH step, as they will ALL be very time consuming, labor intensive, and require precision & cleanliness.

I have always had a hard time spraying any type of clear coat or varnish I usually use a brush or roller to lay it off. If you have an hvlp you would be ok. Hvlp is the way to go.

In answer to your question I get $50-55 per linear foot. Top cabinets (over counter) are measured seperately. I use top quality pre-cat lacquer 2 full coats of sealer and minimum of 2 full coats of lacquer. All sprayed with an airless. I never use poly as the drytime is not condusive to furniture quality finishes.

Don't believe the hvlp hype unless you have all day they are not for production work.

I'll have to find pictures of the $67,000 set of cabinets that I stained and lacquered. My bid was $11,657. All of them came out furniture quality.
