Bugs In Paint???

This has happened a few times over my painting career... working for other painting companies... but has never happened under my company until now...

I painted the finish coat on the trim the other day (white) showed up the next day and most of the trim I painted the day before was PLASTERED with bugs (black flys & mosquitoes)... I was bummed out...I was planning a short day... it was Friday...I thought that all the bugs were gone by now... it's been cold here... but we got a small overnite warm pocket which brought out the bugs...

anyways... I just told the owner that I would take care of it... I felt I was making enough money and had the time to do it... it only took me about hour or so...to take care of it...

I know its not our fault that this happens but I thought it was a good business discision to just "take care of it"

I just lightly hand sanded and applied another coat...

I think if it was more time consuming I would have took a different route...

Just curious what other painters do when they come across a situation such as this... Im sure many of you have...

another thing that drives me nuts is finishing a deck and pines needles and leaves fall onto it...geez

That actually happens from time to time around here. I usually do the same thing you did.

What he said. This past summer we were painting exterior windows...53 windows to be exact. Went back the next morning they were covered with no see ums. The HO asked what we were going to do and I said well we can use our dust brush to kind oif dust them off for one price or we can repaint them for another. I told him the second option was great job security for us as it would be an ongoing project till fall.

Re: Bugs In Paint???

I've gotten a few bugs that are 'attracted' to the paint. Stupid bugs, I just laugh at um. Havent run into swarms, like your talking about, but what you did seemed fine....

remember, doing a few extra things (that the homeowner is aware of) helps build good relations and is never done in vain....good call
