Depends on the job, if the square footage is over a certain amount, I will spray if possible. But yes, on an average repaint breaking out a sprayer isn't faster.

new construction sprayer. Almost never use sprayer on repaint. I spray my ceilings and primer then roll everything else. How many people spray finish coats? Do you shield your ceiling lines or stay about 6 inches down then brush in ceiling lines.

The only time I use the sprayer is outside. Just because of the over spray on the inside is to much to control. and beside you get better coverage with a roller then you would ever get with a sprayer. My customers want a top quailty paint job not a blow and go job . I have seen other companies use the sprayers and for all the masking and then the clean up I could roll the place out and be done while they are still clean up their mess. I guess I'm old school.

Repaints its the old brush and roller. New construction I break out the sprayer and back roll ceilings and walls. Since there really isn't anything in the new constructions over spray really isnt' a issue. Everything is usually one color in the new constructions if it is a spec so we do ceilings and walls at the same time.

New construction, Spray ceilings and trim,
Repaint roller and brush, if you have a completely empty room and have a ceiling to spray, then i would pull out the sprayer.

I use my spray machine as much as possible. Walls, ceilings, baseboards, crown molding, cabinets.

I do a lot of custom finishes so I can't live without a sprayer, but on walls or ext. the only time I'll run a sprayer is new construction, then I backroll with an 18". Super fast, and better finish than spray only.
