Brush Covers.

Anyone know if there is a company making replacement covers to store you brushes in? I've had a lot of people asking for them. Either the cardboard they come in wears out or gets tossed and then the bristles go all to hell without a cover on them. I've found listings for patents on these type of products but so far haven't come across the product itself.

Re: Brush Covers.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to get a hold of our corona rep. I don't sell their brushes but I'll buy the covers if people will buy them from me! If it were me, I'd make my own, but I don't know if I'd want to sell home made covering in our store. Maybe I'll have our store name printed on some poster board with a cut out template.

In the patent listing, you should be able to find the name of the person who patented the item. Try to contact them.

I have bought some from SW. Clear plastic. Last ones I bought were on sale for a penny apiece, so they may have been discontinuing them.

Purdy will give them to you/sell them, or they used to.

Our SW store has 'em on sale right now... "manager's special" shelf.

We deal with Pratt and Lambert, which is owned by SW. Can I get anything like this from them? No of course not. For the longest time I couldn't get 5 gallon paddles from them. I can't even get paint cartons. *bangs head against wall*

Paint cartons? Is that SW's odd looking gallon container?

Re: Brush Covers.

In the past, I have wrapped brushes in newspaper to maintain the form. Either do a twist of the paper around the handle, or use a rubber band around the heel to secure the wrap job. Works well if you can't get some replacements cheap.

Happy painting, Paul.

Re: Brush Covers.

My wholesaler get them from Purdy at no charge. I used to get the plastic ones that Boman was talking about, but can't find them any more either, tried a few times to search online, but to no avail.

Another question, does anybody use brushkeepers anymore? Many call them brush boxes, the metal boxes with clips to hold brushes for soaking. I tried to buy another one (someone apparently liked mine and took it with them) but some of the young counter sales guys had no idea what I was talking about until they asked an older guy, none of the dealers can even order them anymore. Have they become that unpopular? Just curious as I liked mine.

Re: Brush Covers.

Paint cartons are flat sheets of cardboard that you can fold together to form a half-box with built in handles. Many companies ship paint in these instead of full cartons. Duron painters probably know exactly what I'm talking about. Regardless they are a lot easier to pack retail orders in than the boxes P&L comes in now. I've seen a few listings for brush keepers when looking for these covers. Most of the painters I know make their own inside a 5 gallon pail.

Just because there is a patent, doesn't mean a manufacturer can afford to produce and sell. I have several patents as inventing is a hobby of mine, but convincing a manufacturer they can sell it is another thing. Most patents never make it out of the patent office.

If there is not enough demand, it disapperas quickly...

We use the red rosin paper for ours. Cut it into 10" X 12 pieces and wrap the brush tightly. Works for awhile, then we make a new one...Cheap fix.
