Bidding A Health Club

I am bidding a repaint on a health club and it is a very hard bid. I have found that square footage is helpful but not completely effective in bidding. I have roughly 25,000 feet of surface to paint. 2 colors.
The previous painter used a 2 part water based epoxy on some surfaces and I believe I must prime over much of this for the paint to adhere. I estimate paint costs alone to be about $5000. I have done many a new construction bid at 2.25-2.85 per square foot but that would bring this bid upwards of $55,000 which I see as just too high. I feel like 1.25 per square foot is to low. I am figuring with three guys working it will take 40 days of work plus headache time, beacuse we are working room to room instead of shutting the club down. Any input would be helpful.

Thanks

You already have your answer. 3 guys for 40 days. What is your daily rate for your crew including profit and overhead? Multiply times 40 and add your materials. That is what you need to charge.

Why do you see it as "just too high"?

Sounds like you worked out the math
Do you really want this job if you bid too low?

Remember, about 30% of those walls will have to be done again by the time you finish. Touchup is going to be lots of fun if the club stays open and operating.

Add for doing that extra touchup, and add for the PITA factor of health-nuts whining about the paint smell.

Honestly, I thought your first price was pretty decent, if just a little high. I would think that 2.10 to 2.20 would be a decent price.

Re: Bidding A Health Club

My uncle recently did a weekend paint/spray job for a used indoor large showroom... 6 guys plus him, $18,000.00 for 2 days. Not bad...

$5000 in paint?... if paint was 10% of your typical headache commercial job, then $50,000 seems like a nice place to be at.

Re: Bidding A Health Club

from your anticipation costs I came up with: $55430.00

Includes your estimate of 5000 for paint and around 7400 overhead and profit, 3 guys 40 days.

about right i would say.
