Bidding Ceilings
Hey all you awesome people giving me valuable information here. As soon as I get rolling and have people waiting on me, it's my treat for beers! Moving on....
How do you guys price for ceilings? Again these people have the paint, and I like the brand they bought, Kelly Moore Brand. Do you measure the SF or what and just to get an idea, feel free to share if you will what you charge... Thanks.. PS Most all ceilings 9 feet high, and all have crown which was already installed and I'm painting that first. This house is a Historic home which is being restored one floor at a time. thanks guys! Re: Bidding Ceilings
are you spraying them or rolling? it all depends on how much prep work you will need to do. what type of ceiling? how many coats?, Each job is different from the next. you will need to figure out how long its going to take you and how much you want to make and if you really need or want the job. there are many factors that need to be considered, break the job down in parts if possible, its easier to figure out a bunch of small task then trying to come up with one number for the whole job. hope some of this helps.

Redman...
They are spray textured, new ceilings and would be rolling since there are many ceilings and most areas are not worth the time to cover up everything.. thank you for your input I really appreciate it.. add more if you want to |

Re: Bidding Ceilings
i don't ever estimate for rolling ceilings unless its a small room or hallway. I think spraying is the right way to paint acoustic ceiling, you might spend more prep time but after that is done it only take a matter of minutes to paint out a room. you get perfect coverage and is defintinly faster if you have a large amount of ceilings to paint. You can rent a pump for a day for about 50 dollars, well worth the money. Not to mention you might might need multiple coats to insure proper coverage.

Re: Bidding Ceilings
I do Time and Materials for ceiling re-paints
I look at it and depending on how much or little PITA, figure my time plus paint for two coats I will always roll occupied repaints ceilings |

Re: Bidding Ceilings
Historic home = lots of ornamental bits like rosettes, mouldings, brass fixtures etc that are hard to replace if accidently painted and difficult to clean at the very least. I would roll to avoid the overspray issue, but if spray was controlled and you covered everything really well then spraying would work too - it does a nice job on texture ceilings.
Just make sure you add a little to your costs to cover the extra fiddling with a house like that. |
