best way to tell if the wall has oil or latex paint??

Can someone tell me the best way to determine if a wall has oil base paint vs. latex? Do you use accertone, varsol, etc. Tell me what you use and how you do it. Thanks very much.

Latex will come off with alcohol, oil won't. Basic rule of thumb. I'm sure that there are exceptions like everything else.

We use denatured, it is carried on most of the trucks all of the time. It has many uses, mostly as a cleaning agent but also useful in many stoves during power outages.
