At the kitchen table. Try to use the term quote or estimate, the word bid describes what happens at an auction.

Almost everyone in Texas says bids. Whenever someone calls me for a bid, they say "could you come out and give us a bid?"

Rarely, is estimate or quote used.

Well, that's in Texas.

In Houston, which the last time I checked was still located in Texas, we call it a proposal or estimate.

I prefer meeting at the kitchen table, unless it's a nice day and then we can sit by the pool.

i believe the real point is that you have the wrong customers...you got the bid and bungle crowd...guys who give proposals or quotes just have a better class of customer...

i think that's the point.

Re: Best Places To Give Bids?

A good example of a bid would be handing a property owner your price for the work requested and then he or she negotiates it downwards and downwards until you either are bleeding or give up and say no.

When you provide a scope of work and cost analysis, or a proposal and specifications, you remove the cloud hanging over your head to be labeled as the majority of contractors are.

The "Bidding" game is the same as a "Reverse Auction", whereby the consumer keeps on negotiating with one or more contractors until they arrive at a price that they deemed fair, without comparing the true value of complete and detailed specifications to do the job correctly and professionally.

Upon what criteria and past experiences was that client capable of coming up with what they believed to be a fair price? By other jack-legs prices? By obscure details and specifications?

That is the point. No conjecture on mahlere's part.
