The best brand depends on what your using it for.

Doghouse - Behr
Apartments SW Promar
Midline repaint BM Superspec
Higher end exterior SW Super paint or Porter Acri pro
Thick mil Colorwheel

Get the picture?

Really, if there were a "best paint" out there, I'm sure we'd all use it

There's gonna be SWP guys that think BM is crap, BM guys that think SWP is crap, then a couple of Porters and Lamberts and...etc....

It comes down to this:
There's lots of good paints out there, and lots of crap
Most paint "brands" have crap/good/better/best
You get what you pay for
Better paints make your job easier, faster, and more profitable

Here's the deal:
Find a supplier that is good to/for you, that has the sundries and odd stuff you need, that has good advice, a contractor discount, and good contractor hours, and is convenient for your business
Paying a little more is worth it for better service

Now try their better quality paint line
See if you can work with it, if it suits your style
If it's good, it's going to take a few jobs to get the "knack" for it, how far you can push it, etc...

At that point you'll probably get an idea of whether you want to use it or not

Edit - Oh, and ya Slick has good tips there... I was saying that Kathy or Roaddog wouldn't swing by and grab a quart of SW glaze to do a 50k faux, nor would I put Colorwheel Optima on a 5k shed. Check out your reps and get specs on mil, dry time, Voc, application temps, and recoat times... story will unfold before your eyes.

Honestly? I usually use ProMar 400 or BM superspec for ceilings, and BM Regal or ProMar 200 for walls. Exteriors I'm BM Moorelife or PPG Speedhide depending upon price point. The Speedhide is surprisingly good cold weather paint. I used to use the ICI Satin, but the quality from batch to batch varies a bit too much.

I like BM topline egg... Works for almost everything. I imagine there might be some better products out there, just haven't had the umph to try anything different in the last few years.

I tried Promar 400 Extra white for ceilings and absolutely loved the results - the only other sherwin product I will use is their woodscapes. The sherwin merchant made me buy masterhide instead of promar400 - he said it was a relabel that is cheaper to buy, any thoughts?

It might be a relabel or it might be something new that SW wants to push. Wouldn't be the first time.

I haven't used the masterhide yet, but would want to look up the chemical ingredients to see how they compare.

Its a very similar product if it wasnt called MasterHide it would be called ProMar 450. It like that with many of our products. The Contractor Series paint could be called ProMar 300. They made it to compete directly with UH 1410. MasterHide is ok stuff if I am correct it has a slightly coarser grind which makes it a little rougher to the touch but if you use it on ceilings it wont matter.
