This is gonna probably sound stupid to some but......
I scraped, wire brushed and even sanded the trim on a house till it was smooth. Now that I put a coat of primer on it it still has the apperance of alligator skin. Any tips on what I could do differently (short of stripping it to bare wood) or a tip that I can do after the primer coat would be appreciated.

What type of primer did you use? Are you describing what looks like lots of little cracks? If so, this usually is an issue of incompatable finishes. Usually this happens when you apply a strong finish (i.e. epoxy) over a finish such as oil base paint. If not cracks, it will sometimes cause the under finish to bubble. This should not happen with your normal residential products. You can use a universal primer such as UMA. Is this interior or exterior?
