I set the gun down and walk away. When I come back, I pick the gun up and start spraying again. If it is overnight, I might release the pressure on the pump, but that is it if I am spraying the same product the next day.

I did that once and my gun started to rust, literally overnight. What kind of guns do you use? Mine was a Graco.

Do you know why you don't leave it filled over night? I have heard that it is never good to leave the pump under pressure for to long. And again I have heard painters say they leave it under pressure all the time...
Also if it isn't under pressure, the paint will begin to cure in the lines, correct?

I like to release the pressure from the rig for saftey purposes. Always have this fear that some one will mess with the gun. I will keep snorkel in paint and cover with plasic and stick the gun in a gallon of water.

Paint brushes
I was at a pro show yesterday and was talking to a purdy rep. I said I have used a wire brush to clean my brushes after a day of painting. The rep looked at me in horror and said never use a wire brush to clean your brush. I have been painting for 15 plus years and me and everyone I have worked with our around has used a wire brush to clean there brushes. After talking to the Purdy rep it made sense to me why you should not use a wire brush for cleaning the brush. It never seeks to amaze me how the activity of learning never stops. I am going to try to stop using the wire brush but will be difficult because it is engrained in me. How do you guys clean your brushes?

I use one of those small red bristle brushes sometimes, only when I have been using the same brush all day and have dried paint on the hilt. Otherwise just water and my hand.

I had a co worker that always left his pump under pressure. He came back to the job the one morning to a pin hole leak in the hose. The pump wasnt on and just the pressure alone made the paint shoot out like silly string all over the place.

We let the presure off, unplug the rigs, and get the lines together ( not rolled up, but just out of the way ).
As for overnight..............they are cleaned up daily. Never left in paint overnight.

Seeing how he is a purdy rep my guess is he told you to use a spinner and i brush comb, with warm water and a mild detergent.

How do you leave your brushes over nite? WE don't we clean them.....
You should clean your sprayer at the end of every day also.
leaving it in water is fine for a small amount of time... but water is not good for your rig for long periods of time.

Wasn't gonna answer since we are terrible.. .but, we leave pressure off and the gun in a 5 of water overnight or for lunch, never had a problem. We also have so many brushes that most of us simply toss em in the 5 and at the end of the week..... heh, and at times, left them dunked in paint overnight.
