Air Assisted Airless Spraying

Hi there,

Has anyone had experience with air-assisted airless setups ?

I would like to start a thread about what setups people are having success with. ie what settings are being used: fluid pressure , air pressure, paint viscosity, fan control, and how good the results are ie film build, quality of finish etc..

I have used an Air Assisted Airless gun to paint out trim and doors in new homes with average success. Any comments would be helpful as i am finding that there is a lot more involved in setting them up right than with straight forward airless rigs.

Sorry I can't help, but I always thought that was the funniest thing. How the hell is it airless if it's air assisted, LoL?!?!

Re: Air Assisted Airless Spraying

There is a new sprayer made by Titan/speedflo called the air coat, its and air assisted airless and work great. you get the speed of an airless and the finish of a hvlp and can spray latex right out of the can with no thinning. It would be the perfect tool if your doing lots of doors and trims. you can get one for about $2700-2800 (CDN).

If you want aswell you can get a fine finish tip for your airless titan and graco have them Its a double orface tip that breaks the paint down finer and sprays at a lower pressure lower pressure.

Just a couple ideas,

Joe

Re: Air Assisted Airless Spraying

Graco made one years ago it was called the Bulldog or the King, my memory eludes me, but anywho it had like a 4 or 5 foot piston that was driven by compressor, you could run 5 or 6 guns balls out at the same time with no drop off in volume. It could shoot the thickest paints with no thinning, you could even spray mastics with it. It made the coolest sound on every piston stroke, and you could really feel the gun kickin in your hand.

Your talking about "dialing" in an HVLP... most paints made for HVLP machines have the information on the can, or in the spec sheets, the rest is just practice. Once I get the gun dialed in right with the right pressure I could paint someones eyeball and never hit the lid. Using it for trim? Almost more effort setting it up than it's worth imho, I only use mine these days for furniture and railings, or speckle paints.... I have the best luck with lower pressure on the machine, little higher in the can and a fan to match both from 2 feet.

Re: Air Assisted Airless Spraying

I have seen the air assisted sprayer you speak of,at sherwin williams, but for the loss in speed you would be better off with an airless,I also have an hvlp and it is not as fast as an airless, its just a case of the proper tool for the proper job.

Re: Air Assisted Airless Spraying

I have an HVLP.....it's not as conveniant for doing trim as one might think. I paid 2500.00 for mine, but I only use it on cabinant doors, furniture, things lie that...if you had alot of trim in a relativly confined area it would do ok, but just to bring it in a home and spray a little trim, its not really for that.
