Advertising, Getting More Work?

I have been passing out flyers like crazy, I also have an ad in the paper. I was wondering if there are any good cheap ways to advertise or get more work. I am a very unlucky person so I don't just run into work. I have a yard sign, I don't have a label on my truck, are magnets okay to do or is a full blown paint decal the way to go? Any tips appreciated.

First of all......repeat after me......'I am the luckiest guy in the world'....and keep repeating it until you believe it.

I think that the magnet type advertising decal on the side of trucks looks too temporary. Might not give the best of impressions. You can get a fairly inexpensive custom made decal to attach to your back and or side windows that looks much better or if budget permits a professional painted sign on your truck as you already mentioned.

Advertising with flyers, I've heard - not tried, is a good way to advertise but you have to commit to doing it several times every few weeks before your name will become part of peoples thinking.....and that is only if they bother to look at them. I don't remember the percentage of calls you'd get by doing this but it is realitively small. BUT every new happy customer is potentially worth many more down the road no matter how you've obtained them.

Good luck
Mary

When you finish a job for a customer ask them for a couple referrals from their friends or relatives that might be in the market for painting. Now this assumes that the customer is very satisfied with your work.

As far as truck lettering, I, just this week, got both front doors and one rear door and a windshield decal with my name and # on it for $100.79 (I installed them - easy!) at FAST SIGNS. They look very good and they get my name out there. That's key to any business!

Good luck, dude, get out there and show 'em what you got!

I agree that vinyl truck lettering would be a good way to go.

I have never put my phone number on my truck I live here in Bean town and I drive pretty much like an arrogant masshole I would be getting all sorts of interesting calls business cards are the cheapest way to advertise, put em up everywhere, laundromats, food stores, ask your local paint/wallpaper suppliers if they would take a few etc. and as far as magnets signs go they suck, they blow off on the highway, kids steal them if you have a cool logo, and rot your truck by trapping moisture underneath, also here your friendly ticket giver does not honor it if your parked in a commercial spot, truck has to be either be lettered either by paint/decals

Don't tell people you're unlucky.

I don't want an unlucky person around me.
No matter what I teach them, they will still blunder.

I don't run into work, either... ASK for it.
Tell everyone you meet that you are ready, willing, and able to do a first class job on their project for a reasonable cost.
If they have no project, perhaps it's time they start on one to take full advantage of the great opportunity to engage your services.

Make a sign for your truck.

When you get more bucks, have another simple, straight-forward one made by a pro... block letters, two colors. EZ to read.
