Added Storm Windows & Estimating
I have another question after reviewing the home again this afternoon.
This will be the first time I am painting a home with added storm windows - i.e., post-construction, aluminum exterior storm window sets were added to window frames. I can see immediately this affects time and effort in a significant way in painting the exterior surface of the window framing. It is at least a 15 year gap since last painting, and I haven't learned when the storms were added, but there is no paint no them so no evidence of long association with home pre-last painting. How does this affect estimating time and/or paint? I am assuming HO doesn't wish for me to paint the aluminum but is there both exterior and interior work on these windows?? Thanks in advance! |

Re: Added Storm Windows & Estimating
Go in the the house and remove the storms. Paint the window sash and then put the storms back in. You don't have to paint the storms, they are pre-finished. We only paint them if they were painted before

Re: Added Storm Windows & Estimating
Thanks Premier. These are unpainted aluminum storms. But I wasn't intending to paint them if not specifically requested. It seems to me that one of the glass panels on the old add-ons was permanently fixed? I haven't been on a ladder yet to look at them. Wondering about painting the top half of the window..??

Re: Added Storm Windows & Estimating
we just did a job with some nasty old windows covered by storms. It was a bear trying to paint them with the storms. All the scrapings would fall into the bottom of the window and had to be shopvaced out. We ended up popping the entire storm down. Took about 20-30 minutes per window but was worth the effort. made cleaning, glazing, and painting much easier. If windows aren't in too bad of shape you probably don't need to go to the trouble. Good luck
