Your opinions on the best primer [acrylic] for an exterior, substrate is red cedar [don't scream oil just yet] that has been finished with a {so the owner tells me} an acrylic primer and two top coats. I see no evidence of bleed through, however there are darker spots where the stainless steel nails are.
Against my advice he insists on everything receiving a primer coat before finish coats.
I'll be contacting California and Western Red Cedar Assoc. for their opinions also. [Ya didn't think I'd trust you alone
