1- I know math is hard to learn even with 5 yrs experience but here goes- length x height of long wall + length x height of short wall. then multiply by 2 for the total sqft of walls
2- $18.71/sqft, materials extra
good luck bro

2 walls, 12ft. long = 24 ft. OK? 24ft. x 8 ft = 192 square feet (sq.ft.)
2 walls, 11 ft. long =22 ft. 22 x 8 = 176 square feet.
192 + 176= 368 sq. ft.
Don't forget, windows and doors don't get painted, hopefully, and you can also multiply the Height times the Width, just like the walls.

I can only comment on this by saying you must be on some really good smoke to charge $18.71 a foot or atleast you hope the homeowners are

if you have five years exp, you should be able to make a very reasonable guess on how long it will take you to paint, so just figure much you want to make in that period of time, and add in materials.

This post should be a sticky. Labled as "Newbie Post Painting 101"
And this post was very helpful to me as a new painter. My cousin is a realitor and swore up and down that my formula for adding up sq ft was wrong. She calculated floor sq ft. and confused the hell out of me until I found this post.
She said "There is no way that room could be 480 square feet. That would make that room nearly half the size of the last house I lived in."
Thankyou so much for such a simple conclusion! BEFORE I RIPPED MY FREAKING HAIR OUT!!!

So a 10 x 10 room is $5,987 plus materials(40x8x18.71). And my customers think my prices are high!
You are right, good luck bro.
