19 Foot Ceilings... Help

What is going to be the best way for me to work on a house with 19 foot ceilings? Its the interior living room, foyer, and it extends into the upstairs part. i measured it at about 19' Do I really have any choices or is just a really big ladder going to do the job?

I'd bring my cape.

If ya have room, scaffold it.

Do you own or can you transport staging? Maybe rent some (if you dont own some), but only if it's really worth the hassle. or

grab a big step ladder- 12' or more...this might be what I would use along with any 16' extensions...

This is a common question. Where I lived in Illinois there are lots of houses just like that. You always hear of HO's who "can't find a painter", just to learn that it's this type of situation and they don't want to pay for it.

You'll have to get staging and charge them accordingly. It's a hassle and there is no way around it.

Otherwise, the tall ladder might work, but remember that you have to cut in and you'll have to roll from that ladder. Terrible for your back. Especially if the ceiling is vaulted or cathedral.

Re: 19 Foot Ceilings... Help

i was resisting using scaffolding for a very long time...talked customers out of painting high ceilings or just painted small foyers where i could use ladder and extension pole....however the last high ceiling i did in a medium size foyer made my wrist hurt for months.....so next high ceiling i get i WILL be using scaffolding....and i will jump into that new experience with both feet instead of resisting it like the black plague.
