Re: Smokes

Well, I attempted to make up my own mind about this device. I had a hard time understanding the way this breaker functions. I read Mike Holts very long detailed reviews and how he thought they were a joke and simply a money maker for the companies that make them. He then posted an article about how he was invited to.....GE i think...I forgot which one. On his dime he travled out there and got a full description and various demonstrations to completly prove their value in what they do and how they work. He has since changed his view and now supports them. I trust him to be a reliable source for electrical knowledge and am greatful for his input. As for needing an AFCI of the smokes line, I find it a little silly that should a fire occur and the AFCI does it's job, the chances of a 9vt battery back up actually working are not something I would put my families life's on. I can remember removing the battery at 2 in the morning and forgetting to replace it.

However I guess that thought makes little difference come Jan-08.

Amen brother, that says it all.
How did these things just show up overnight and all of a sudden I'm forced to trust my life to them. Instead of a tried and true method of Smokes on a standard breaker(which I'm still waiting to see the proof of problems with)

Do you have ANY proof that we as a society will be safer having smoke detectors AFCI protected?????
