How does the nec rule 210.5 apply to moving a residential clothes dryer just past 6 ft. from the outlet ?
Thanks

You mean 210.50, right? (210.50(C) to be exact)

The outlet must be 6' or less. If you move the dryer more than that, you get to move the outlet as well.

At least that is my take.

Re: Residential Dryer Move

For the benefit of others:

210.50(C) Appliance Outlets. Appliance receptacle outlets installed
in a dwelling unit for specific appliances, such as
laundry equipment, shall be installed within 1.8 m (6 ft) of
the intended location of the appliance.

It is quite clear. The outlet has to be within 6 feet of the appliance, but it does not prescribe how that is to be measured. If you measure from the edge of the appliance, which would be permitted the way this code is written, you could still potentially need a 7 or 8 foot cord, since most of the cords come roughly out of the center of the appliance. In new work, there's no excuse for not having the outlet pretty much "right there", but in rennovation work, you sometimes need to exercise certain measuring liberties to be in compliance.
