I Assume This Is A Violation

I was recently staying at a hotel in DC and saw this on an outdoor wall light.

My skills are in framing and CAD/design.....I'm no electrician....but I think this might be wrong.

Pretty sure the clear packing tape covering the wires passes.

It's called 'clickbait'. They're baiting people to click their cameras.

Re: I Assume This Is A Violation

Although it may be dangerous, they can get away with it.. and that's assuming that the fixture is higher than 6 feet. If a licensed electrician did it, it would be a no-go. But I'm guessing that it was done by the owner/in house maintenance staff.

In a commercial environment the owner of the building has a bit more liberty when it comes to servicing and/or modifying fixtures. Conversely, they also assume all of the liability when it comes to damage or personal injury as a result of the work that they self-perform on their property.

Would you please elaborate on the Code sections that back this up?

It would be an easy call in the next fire marshal inspection.
