I will take 277's side. I know what he meant. Anymore I just give the homeowner the choice. Ex. ok the arc fault trips from your Brand New $400 ceiling fan. Do you want to replace the ceiling fan or you want me to put in a regular breaker? Someone want's to add a microwave cir. but, it put's their little 100 amp service over the load calc limit (mandatory around here). You want to spend $2,000 for a new service or you want me to run the microwave cir.
I usually smile and tell them it's against code (but not necessarily unsafe) but it's up to you. Now, I would'nt do anything stupid like put a stove on a 12/3 or really serious safety issues but sometimes in cases like above I would do. Basically, I wouldn't do anything I wouldn't do in my own home with all 5 kids living there. That's about it |
