100 Amp Panel

Is it ok to add another breaker panel onto my meter base as long as I put a fused disconnect at the meter base , then run my wire to my 100 amp panel ? I cant use my main 200 amp panel so this isnt an option.

There are a few problems that come to mind right away.
  • all your service disconnects need to be physically located proximal to one another (grouped). If you propose to put a 100 amp disco next to the meter base, your present 200 amp disco for your 200 amp panel must be right there too. If your 200 amp panel is indoors someplace, with a main breaker, this won't fly
  • Very darned few (maybe none at all) 200 amp meter cans are rated for load side double lugging (installing more than one conductor under the same lug). This would seem to be what you're proposing, since you appear to already have a 200 amp panel connected, and you want to connect a 100 amp disco out of that panel also.
Explain exactly what it is you're trying to accomplish, and we can advise you abou the correct and compliant ways to do this. Chances are, there are at least a few other ways that never occured to you.

I am going to put a 100 amp panel in my basement and I have to trench around my house about 100' to get to the location I want it in. My main 200 amp panel for my house is in my garage and is full , This is why I wanted to add another panel onto the meter base. This would be so much easier to come out of the meter base than it would be to come out of my main 200 amp panel. I just dont see why you cant double up on the wires under one lug in the meter base. Or even buy y lugs if they sell them. My present disco for the 200 amp main is directly on the other side of the wall from the meter base in my garage. thanks

I see.

Say, what line of work are you in, presently? This might help me tailor my response to you.
