What Causes Pool Pumps To Blow Their Bearings?
Any ideas what maybe causing my pool pump to blow their bearings? I have bad luck with my above groud pool pumps. It seems like every 1 to 1 1/2 years the bearing in the pool pump blow. Any Suggestions. It a 15' x 30' oval above gound pool with a sand filter.

Re: What Causes Pool Pumps To Blow Their Bearings?
Are you replacing the pump and motor as an assembly each time? Or just the pump head? I fear that you might have an alignment issue or bad bearings in the old half that's tearing up your new pump heads.

chems in skimmer?
if so, chems in skimmer & not running pump 24/7, is the same as a pump housing primed w acid. ray

Re: What Causes Pool Pumps To Blow Their Bearings?
No chemicals in the filter. Pump is usually run about 3 hours a day.
I have an automatic pool cleaner so i am not hooking up the pool vacuum to it either. Any ideas? |

Re: What Causes Pool Pumps To Blow Their Bearings?
How would i find out if pool is acidic?
Water is test during the season usually with no problems. What would be the best replacement pump for this pool? It seems the 1 hp are enough to push the water around the pool. any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I think the reason why I am getting blowing the pumps is because I have the pump is about a foot away from the pool and the kids are splashing the pool water on it when they play in the pool. This is causing corrision problem with the pool pump. Thanks for your help Steve |

Re: What Causes Pool Pumps To Blow Their Bearings?
a one horse, is serious overkill. thanks for mentioning. I doubt your above ground has a filter large enough, not to creat some serious backpressure.
as far as splashing, non issue. its water/weather proof equipment. ray

Re: What Causes Pool Pumps To Blow Their Bearings?
Curious , what would hapen if i installed a 2 or 3 HP pool pump instead of the 1 HP pump in a 15' x 30' above ground pool with the existing sand filter? 1 hp just does not seen to be enough .
any suggestions? Thanks for your input |

Re: What Causes Pool Pumps To Blow Their Bearings?
you would blow your shaft seal... get minimal flow in pool....
though, your flow will improve after tank expels about 150lbs of sand into pool.....
