Using Flex Pipe

To connect from rough-in to equip. set

As I've said, I'm really trying to get my inhouse work limited down to just plumbing

Material wise ... it would cost me twice to use flex pipe

(however, the affect on overall price would be nominal ... so not worried about that)

But I could literally do a day's work of plumbing in AT LEAST half the time (if not less) just by using flex pipe vs. rigid sch. 40

I get a really "buttery" feeling (hahah) when I think of how quickly I could get through this portion of the job just by using flex pipe

NOW --- what's holding me back is that I've heard that termites will eat the flex pipe up - yikes!

So I'm a bit hesitant on doing this.

Any suggestions? I'd really love to use the flex pipe - but im skeert

Re: Using Flex Pipe

its true dirt, termites will attack flex...

i have seen it 2x, it actually looks like a log that was hitby termites...

tigerflex claims to be treated to prevent insect damage, you would be hard pressed to find a flex product thats warranty isnt voided by underground use....

chances are you will get away w/ it 99.99% of the time....

the thought of kicking out some roless is more appealing than leveling & sanding trenches for rigid.....

i have seen it collapse on the suction side also...

Re: Using Flex Pipe

My manufacture taught me to use flex. The told me to attach all the pipe to the returns/drains/skimmers before i put the pool in the ground. They said bungee them up in the air.

Is this how you guys would do fiberglass? I guess if the hole is actually dug to spec with 8in of each side, there is not much room to attach plumbing once the pool is in the ground.

Down in tx, the manufacture has a guy that just plumbs all the pools they install in their shop yard. He drills all the holes. Attaches all the pipe. Labels the pipe, and bungees them together.

no ... like i said, im terrified of flex pipe ... though I could take up golf after getting home at 11 AM if I could use it

Rusk - companies I've worked for - yeah we used it. I have no idea of the after effects of doing that though. So naturally, I'm scared to use it for myself. Ray just confirmed my fears, lol. No golf for me I guess

how would I do it if being such a worry wart forced me to use rigid?? For a fiberglass??

I'd find out where my skimmers/drains were going to be (if your manufacturer uses drains - some do not) and I would find my returns.

I'd figure out with a 80% certainty where these fixtures are going to be

Then, at excavation, I'd dig a lateral for each of these points.

The lateral would be 2-3' wide - depends on the bucket size

Then simply lay a lateral pipe there.

If I am 80% certain of the location --- and I have 2-3' of space to work with --- I know I can make it work.

Then, once the shell is set --- I'll make connections from the lateral to the shell

OR - Ray, help --- do termites venture into stone dust or sand???

(I don't know)

If they do not --- as long as the flex pipe is in that stone dust or sand --- I'd feel ok.
