Question About Pool Wall Support/loads
Hi, I'm posting to inquire about suggestions or comments on wall support for a small pool.
We're installing a 12X24 6'deep Poly Wall pool on a slope. The deep end sits properly and the shallow end presents to a level plane at exactly the depth of the sidewall panels. (think: sidepanels 48" high on each end with the earth sloping from the top of the panel on one end, to the base of the panel on the other). I've recieved opinions from "it's fine, pile dirt against it" to "sink a 24" footer with a 14 ft retaining wall". Just looking for input/opinions. Thank you. |

Re: Question About Pool Wall Support/loads
ok, unless im reading wrong - you have the deep end of the pool (the wall) exposed
here's what I would do if I didn't have an engineer and ... engineers will calculate .... calculate ... spit numbers ... concoct forumulas ... and STIIIIIIIILL not know what the hell it is you're trying to do im assuming you want a deck on this deep end - right?? im assuming this slope keeps continuing (i.e. you're on a mountain side) i'd certainly have the retaining wall and i would not fill with dirt - i'd fill with 3/4" gravel this is self compacting ... to a certain nominal degree you should be pouring a footer anyways and it will be at least 12" x 24" anyways get the wall - fill with self-com gravel hello ... paypal?? |

Re: Question About Pool Wall Support/loads
Personally, i'd do a vanishing edge gunite!!!!
You need a retaining wall. I'd do 2 7 foot teirs. Walls need to be designed by a engineer. If walls are out of the buget and ample space is available, you could bring in like 500 yards of fill. Then do ground cover plantings on the hill to stablize it. But walls would look nicer. |

Re: Question About Pool Wall Support/loads
Depending on the length of the wall, it could easily be 20k +

Re: Question About Pool Wall Support/loads
Hi,
I incorrectly stated the wall height at 48 inches, it is 42 inches with 6 inches above grade level (on the deep end). The deep end is planted into the hill, the shallow end is exposed from the base up to the top of the panel. Nothing will go on the shallow end other than a 24 inch apron. Ground level at the shallow end is level for 4 feet beyond the panel end, then declines at 1 inch per 6 feet for the next 40 feet. Not on a mountain, we're in low hill country and this is on the backside of a 2-story home with a walkout. I had planned a 42" high, 10 inch (top) to 18 inch (bottom) trapezoid wall with a 24" footer with a length of 14 feet. Thank you all kindly for your input. |

Re: Question About Pool Wall Support/loads
The company that makes this 42" panel also makes a 48" panel. (Tuff Wall). Yes, it's a poly panel with a vinyl liner, sand/masonry mix bottom.
The pool is 6'6" on the deep end 3' on the shallow. The graphic in my first post is a dead on representation of the actual pool position. It's a 36" drop over 20 feet that levels to a slight drop. The logical question would be "why not build the pool on the slight incline?" and the answer is that small matter of $23K in cost to move all the buried utilities. Thanks again. |

Re: Question About Pool Wall Support/loads
Yes, it is a DIY. The retaining wall quote is $4600.00 and I'm sure I'll work it out just fine.
Thanks for your time fellas. |
