Inground "SHOTCRETE" Pool!

Pro's-- Should last a lifetime structurally
Pro's--Shot @4500psi
Con's-- Expensive (figure to pay $130.00-$150.00 a ton
Con's-- If NOT applied properly by a trade professional major problems!

I wouldn't get wrapped up in which one is better... assuming you're shopping for one - I would get whichever one is more appealing to you.

Plenty of pitfalls along the way ... the end product is only as good as the guy who built it.

You'd be amazed at the corners some companies will cut.

i vote gunite though ...

which is really just a name for "dry mixed" shotcrete .... and then there is "wet mix" shotcrete - as J Builder, i assume, is talkin bout.

I agree with dirt. Do not go with a volume pool building company that does hundreds of pools every year. Go with a small or avg sized company that offers you a fair price. Better customer service, no 10% salesmen commission and youre not paying for a big pool companies extreme overhead. Im not saying go with the lowest bidder, but if it seems too good to be true...

The terms gunite and shotcrete are used interchangibly in the pool business. Most pool companies around here use shotcrete. We believe shotcrete to be the superior product due to the guarunteed psi from the ready mix yard. Our shotcrete is guaranteed minimum of 5000psi and usually ends up around 7500psi. I dont think a gunite contractor could guarantee that kind of psi.

You Forgot One!

Nothing lasts longer than tile finished cast in place. Of course nothing costs more either! I have done many CIP pools, primarily for High Schools and Town parks. Demo'd some old one too. I pulled rebar out of a 78 year old pool in Hartford that looked like new. It was the old style twisted square bar.

Properly placed shot-crete gives you far more design options and is much easier to build. Done a bunch of those too.

Best bet is to go with a smaller family owned builder who has been around for 20 plus years.
