Newbie Gunite Pool???'s
Guys, I am asking the pro's, I am a GC and have had no previous interaction with Gunite pool, always had lined when I was a kid. I am looking to understand first, then find a qualified professional in the Southern NH/Northern MA area. This is my own pool. I bought my home last year and have not been able to even think about the pool til now. The neighbors tell me it has not been open in 4-5 years. It appears to have been properly winterize(based on my previous knowledge) plugs are in return lines etc and has a high quality cover that uses pins in the concrete(Ithink the ad's say it will hold an elephany, yeah right!). There is only water in the bottom 1/2 of the deep end. The plaster does not appear to be brittle or cracked on cursory exam. There are 2 areas 1 about 2 ft long and the other about 1 foot long that the tile has fallen in and the plaster is soft just below those areas for 2-4 inches. 1)What are the signs of needing a replaster job? 2) Does it sound as though these areas are pachable? 3) Can anyone give me a rough idea of anticipated types of cost it is a kidney shap maybe 30 x 16. I am not asking what would you charge, just trying to get a handle on budget ideas. 4) What type of service should I contact for the conversation above? Any input is appreciatted as this is all new to me.
Thank you in advance. |

Re: Newbie Gunite Pool???'s
Welcome,
The answer depends on what you are trying to accomplish. You can either 1-patch areas back together or 2-retile the waterline and replaster the pool. I always encourage people to do it all and do it right then there will not be issues down the road. You should call a competent gunite pool renovation (or building) company in your area. Due to the geographic distance I cannot speculate the cost in your area. Good Luck.

Re: Newbie Gunite Pool???'s
OK so that I did, got 3 prices ranging from 12-17K, essentially all the same money difference being some had more add ons they recommended, when I net the out the money is around $14k. Seems like alot, but I have been fooling myself(always do) on what things cost. It seems I will wait this year out and formulate the bigger plan ie: new patio's etc then execute all a once hoping to find some efficiencies in that respect. Ironically my friend tells me he payed just under $20k for his gunite new install 5 years ago..... Wife and kids are bummed!

Re: Newbie Gunite Pool???'s
Where are you located? Under 20K sounds like Florida. Up in New England we build a bit heavier for frost.
I couldn't tell you much about the cost of things unless you are in my area. As far as efficiencies with respect to the project...it's a good Idea to get a price for everything. It would be nice to have it completed at once. Good Luck. If you have more questions just post away.
