Little Question On Changing Pool Coping

I am looking at a nice little job on friday. People have a concrete pool with cantiliver concrete coping. The coping is poured with the deck. The want the coping replaced with bullnose and new tile added.

So no big deal right? I am guessing i would take a demo saw and make a cut all the way around the pool with the saw and remove the 12in (or whatever it works out to be). I am guessing i can use my bosch hammer drill with chisel if i need help removing the concrete.

Then i carefully remove the tile, which half are falling off. The pool was retiled a few years ago, but was done poorly they say.

So what can go wrong on this job? I figure i'd ask before i even go look at it?

Re: Little Question On Changing Pool Coping

Ray's (good and so valid) point aside ...

what type of coping do they want?
what will you use to adhere it to the bond beam?
how wide is your bond beam?
how do you know how wide your bond beam is?
what is your plan for removing the concrete without damaging the (potentially damaging) bond beam?
how will you clean off the bond beam once concrete is demoed?
what effects of demo-ing the concrete will be seen on the beam?
what is your plan for the expansion joint between the eventual coping and deck?

what is your plan for retiling?
what type of tile is it?
does that type of tile exist?
if draining - will you provide water?
if not draining - who will clean pool (cuz it WILL be FILTHY)

what is your plan for draining the pool (you are draining it, correct?)
if you do drain the pool ... how will you protect the plaster?
if you do not drain the pool ... how will you protect the plaster

Re: Little Question On Changing Pool Coping

I really do not know what the situation is here. I will take pictures and post them after i look at it on friday.

First they said tile was falling into the pool, then they said it was concrete from the cantiliver decking. When i see it i will let you know.

This is a lead form my first home show. These people have a shore house (by where the show was) and have a house about 45 minutes from me where this pool is.

I really think this is something i could handle if i knew exactly how to handle it without screwing something up. Mortaring bullnose is nothing new to me, neither is tile. I tiled showers, walls and floors but never a pool.

BTW looks like i may be subing out a entire gunite pool as part of a huge landscape job. I am going to need some tips on that as i progress with the design.
