Its a growing trend here to. Everyone is killing the tubs and replacing them with showers. I use to try and talk the HO out of it if they had one bathroom but no one listened so I gave up.

No one has time for baths any more I guess.

Same here RBS, I try diligently to talk them out of removing the only tub, especially for resale purposes, but if they insist.....

Count the number of baths you took in the last 60 days and the number of showers. Customers say the same thing "We never use the bathtub". Even higher end clients with jetted tubs say the same thing. "Once we got the hot tub on the deck we never use the jetted tub anymore."

We also have plenty of customers who if they have a jetted tub replace it with a soaking tub instead.

20 years ago bathroom design centered around a tub experience. Today design focuses on the shower.

Yes. Technical and Artistic showers.

The same is true up here in Canada. A lot of my projects involve removing the tub and installing a custom tile shower. Most clients will also opt for a creature comfort - steam generator or multiple outlet shower system.

I'll never take out my tub . . . sure others feel the same. Friend who is Real Estate Agent says tub should stay if only one. Large walk in shower great for second bathroom.

When I bought my new house 5 years ago I got them to delete the tub in the ensuite and put in a 6' tub in the second floor bathroom. I ended up with a giant shower stall in the ensuite. (damn I miss them both!)

If the house is for young couples or newlyweds where there are kids then a bathtub would kinda be a requirement wouldn't it?

If somebody wanted a house with a big back yard and your house didn't have one...

If somebody wanted a house with a formal dining room and your house didn't have one...

If somebody wanted a house with 9 bedrooms and your house didn't have one...

In reality, when you put your house on the market you'll probably show it to 10-30 people who's criteria exactly match what your house has and yet none of them will buy it.

Think about it.

Always keep one tub

A house should always have one tub usually in the kids or guest bathroom. Working with real estate people they will tell you even if you are older and the kids are grown you should have one tub. You yourself may not use it but for resale without a tub you have eliminated potential buyers who have young kids which still use a tub. On the other hand, in master bedrooms a large shower with body sprays and handheld seems to be the way things are going. My advice to you would be to always mention about having one tub for resale. If they still want to lose it, so be it, you did your duty as a contractor to advise them on what is best and your adding more work to the project while putting more money in your pocket.

Counting last night, zero baths, well over 60 showers. I can remember the last bath I took, 20 + years ago, I wiped out jumping a ramp and thought soaking in the tub would get the gravel out of my back, didn't work, ended up going to the hospital where they gently removed the gravel with a stiff bristle brush.

I'd think people would want a tub for chicks (they seem to like baths), kids, the dog or if for whatever reason you may have a cat (because they stink).

Wasn't there a code requirement for a tub? I'm thinking I saw it in BOCA (for multi family buildings), not sure.

Forgot to add, bath tubs make a great parts washer, just ask my old landlord.
