You can find service nightmares on every brand. I like Sub Zero more than Thermador for the options available, if I want something truly custom and built in I would go with True Manufacturing, they make commercial bar and restaraunt equipment and will build to spec.

I'd go with subzero over Thermador. More history of problems with Thermador. Subzero unless you get a lemon last along time.

There are usually 3 things go wrong with Subzero fridges that are easy to repair.

evaporator fan, condenser fan or door switch, most repairs usually comes from lack of cleaning and maintenance

As stated Sub Zero for High End Consumer, true is Truly Commercial. True is big on display refers and reach down display freezers.
Real big behind a Bar!

For your home Gene, Sub Zero is really popular with the Elite Crowd but true is a more solid Industrial brand that does say WOW when a person sees one in a Home!

Trues can be a bit more noisy than a Sub but they are all available with REMOTE compressor so they can be the QUIETEST thing going.

POST SCRIPT: Remote compressors are MUCH MORE EFFICIENT!

Edit!!!!!! 14JANUARY2009

Had a Conversation that I DID NOT start concerning the true brand last night............She is loaded and she just left (0801 Hours)...........

Sub Zero for fridge/freezer, Thermador for built-in ovens, the one thing good about Thermador is that service parts are readily available, even for the older models. Have had some service problems with Sub Zero on the rare occasion there was a problem, mostly years ago with the remote mount compressor units.
