Stainless Steel Laminate

have an offer to do stainless steel laminate. is there anything i should know that is different from applying a regular laminate? also they want it installed over an existing toe- kick. the toe-kick is easy to remove and re-use. just curious if there is a special tech other than using some hybond and trimming?

thanks

Re: Stainless Steel Laminate

If you are referring to either Wilsonart METALAMINATES or a similar product they install much the same as regular laminate with the same tools. You can use tools and machinery normally associated with laminate, metal or woodworking shops.

It is easily applied by using a low- or non-shrink silicone sealant and low-modulus contact cement, or a very high-bond type of double-stick foam tape depending on your application. I use 3M Spray 90. METALAMINATES is intended for vertical surfaces only. It is an aluminum surface pressed over kraft paper core sheets impregnated with phenolic resin. It is harder on your blades and bits but not much. Go slow and wear your eye protection.

The protective film should be removed after installation is complete. Avoid getting adhesive on the face as this is a colored aluminum and you can remove the color. Do NOT clean metal face with solvents, paint thinner or adhesive remover. Use 409 or a glass cleaner.

Re: Stainless Steel Laminate

Yes, you can file it just as you would regular laminate. Pick up a few sample chips from your distributor and play with them a little.
