Installing Bevel Edge, What Works???

I have recently started installing bevel edge in some of my ktchen remodels. I have finished off two countertops with bevel edge and have not been real impressed with the installation of it. Then final product looks alright but, I just don't feel that it is up to my standards. The supplier that I get my edge from says the best way they have found to adhere it is to use white carpenters glue and then blue painters tape to hold in place till it sets. Is seems sometimes that if you have a slight variation in the countertop that it tends to pull on you and it is a never ending job to reset the edge several times before u say that is good ehough. Is there any better solutions out there??? Or do I just need to take more time and patiences when working with bevel edge??? Thanks for your input.

I do them with T'bond2 and fiber reinforced packing tape, much stronger. There is also a beveledge that it tongue and groove. You use a slot cutter and run around the top then glue and set. I have NOT tried this method. Seems to me that it could turn out much worse than being able to move it to fit.
I was told by Kuehn Bevel company to fully coat both mating surfaces with glue. I acts to glue and SEALS the backer substrate against moisture

Re: Installing Bevel Edge, What Works???

Thanks for the replies...sorry to take so long to get back to the forum, been out harvesting & farming, my other job! I think the fiber packing tape will help the situation a lot..I'm not so sure that using contact cement is the best way to go. I have been doing a bit more research and was curious as to what u might think about the Hipurformer Advanced Bonding System. This is a polyurethane hot melt system that offers several diffrent working time adhesives, and is also waterproof. They are available at Rockler or Woodworkers Supply, has anyone tried this??? Let me know, it sounds like it would be a happy medium between the contact adhesive and plain carpenters glue. Any thoughts???

3 answers for ya on Hi performer, NO ,NFW< Hell NO
the problem is no work time, you need to be able to fuss with it, Hi-P will NOT allow you that.

Tbond2, strapping tape and lots of patience, only thing I have found the works

Re: Installing Bevel Edge, What Works???

Skymaster has it right. Titebond II & strapping tape are the way to go. All bevel manufacturers will void any warranty if you use contact cement + there's no way to align the top edge permanently.

Hint: use a few 2 " spring clamps here & there to hold the edge up or down as needed.
Also, I prefer to use 3m, 1.5" masking tape. It stretches just enough to pull the edge into the counter top, sticks great & peels off real easy as long as you don't let it sit for several days. Set the tape on the bottom and pull over the top to pull edge in tight.
