Fiberglass tub / shower refinishing

Anyone have any experience?
Quite a few homes in my town (including my own) were built with 1 pc tub / shower combos in the main bath and 1 pc shower stalls in the 3/4 bath ...
My shower has a couple small chips in it (nothing major) plus its "harvest gold" so I was comtemplating having it refinished vs. ripping apart the whole bath plus part of my bedroom to replace it ... I know several of my customers have the same issue, but being unfamiliar with the process, have been hesitant to recommend this as an alternative ...
Interested in hearing your experiences / opinions ...

The acrylic tubs are made using a two part acrylic resin with a clear coat as the finish. If you are planning on painting the tub and expect the same type of wear from it as you had then you will need to request a two part acrylic color coat a two part cleat coat. An air cure one part system is not going to give you the same results. Most of the systems I have seen are a quick fix and really do not stand up to the test of time. To replace a tub is a days work plus drywall repairs and painting. Likely the flooring needs to be updated anyway so why not replace the vanity, countertops, sinks and faucets and while your at it new bath fan and window. Don’t stop there and on and on and on………….patching older items is just delaying the inevitable.

We have been involved in a few projects where the bath/showers were refinished and in every case the clients ended up regreting not changing out the tub. The finish just did not hold up over time.

I have actual hands on knowledge of bathtub refinishing and when done right by a pro they do last.nothing lasts forever even a new tub gets repaired and refinished.never had a complaint on any of my refinishing jobs and you should not either if you do the job right now go make lots of money doing it.
