What To Use For A Transition Piece For A Step With Curved Edge?

Hello,

I'm looking to lay some tile for an entry way into a sunk in living room. The edge of the step is curved and the next step down will be carpet... what can I use to transition to the carpet on this curved edge?

I have included a picture that will hopefully describe what I'm talking about a little better. *edit* It will not let me put a file from my site to show so please look at dumptrucksinfo.info/tile.jpg

What can I use on the edge of the tile level to cover the unfinished edge of the tile. The carpet will come up onto the step and go up the verticle part to meet up with the tile.

Thanks

you kinda left out some details. How big is the curved part of the step? Is it a rather small curve? (meaning the curved part starts about an inch from the end ) Is it a bubble curved edge? And is it necessary to keep the curved part either by you or the HO? Another question is , is the floor your tiling below the door by how much? 1/2 " or so. I have a couple suggestions for you but I would like to know that info.

The curved part of the step is pretty bid I would say... if you continued it to form a complete circle I would say the diameter would be about 5 feet or so...

It really needs to stay curved for it to look right I think... sorry I don't have a pic of the actual step at this time.

I would say there is around or so from the floor to the bottom of the door, yes

Any ideas would be appreciated,
Thanks

ok I must have misunderstood what curve you were refering too. I thought the edge of the step was curved. I know the foundation style is curved from your picture. If the step edge is square then just tile to the edge. Me personally I wouldn't run the carpet up the side. I would tile it instead. To do a curved edge will take time and alot of patience... lol. ive seen it done but have never done it myself. I assume your using ceramic tiles vs vinyl. All I could tell you is what I saw. He had cut the tiles into small peices. ( 1" wide) and set them vertical going around the curve, then back to full tiles. It looked really good when he was done. He ran the tile over the edge of the step to cover the tile on the side of it.
He didnt use any transition peice. I hope this helped you.

Schluter sells lovely little transition strips in a variety of sizes and metal finishes.
They sell a transition that flexes. I used one at a bank where there was an "S" wave between tile and carpet.
I forget the name they call it, but the Home Depot sells them on special order.

Fabricate a curved oak nosing for the top step and butt the tile into it. Who knows, it may look so good the soon to be carpeted step might need to be oak as well

Go to Schluter's website and look at edge profiles.
