Wet Bed For Ceramic Tile In Kitchen

thanks

As long as there's also tar paper under the wire and the mud is 1 1/4" thick.

Ever do a mud job, from the sound of it, no.

Hopefully you don't have to learn on someone else's property.
As said above, make sure you lay down a layer of moisture barrier before your lath and mud job.
And make sure to tak in consideration the height differences in adjacent rooms. You'll need some sort of reducer, be it stone, wood, or metal. Don't slope the mud down. I've seen that done before.

I think you should just use a CBU as well. It is faster, cleaner and less expensive for you in the long run. Since you have not done wet beds, I would be leery to try it.

Backerboard is more expensive than mud, but have you considered the elevation? You could get ditra which only raises the highth of the floor an eigth inch or any other cement board that raises it a quarter inch. A minimum of a inch and a quarter is needed for a mud bed and most houses are not built to have that installed.

If you don't use a full mudbed at 1-1/4" then deflection may become a serious issue. It may anyway.

Does your floor meet the necessary deflection criteria minimums for any of this?

Yeah, CBU costs about 70 cents a sq. ft., plus some screws and cheap thinset.

Better varify the deflection criteria for sure. Did that tile come with a jar of cheese spread?

No conversation about deflection criteria and now all I can see is tail lights! It's no damned wonder the inspection business is growing by leaps and bounds these days.
