Underlayment For 1 X 8 Subfloor

What would you guys consider best underlayment for an install with 1 x 8 subfloor. Have an install for kitchen/dining room with the old 1 x 8 diagonal subfloor and adjacent rooms are hardwood on top of the 1 x 8's. Need transitions to hardwood level as possible. 12 x 24 porcelain tiles.
TCNA doesn't mention anything about this situation.
Any ideas other than replacing 1 x 8's with T & G??
Thanks.

If existing sub floor is sound, I'd put 1/2" ply and ditra over.

The only way to not raise the finished floor would be to remove the subfloor, use 3/4 ply and ditra.

Otherwise ply and ditra added is probably best. I've also seen cbu thinsetted down to the 1x8s. I don't trust that, especially with 12x24 tile.

Yeah, trying not to do replacing it, but might look like choice of that or higher transitions. Just wanted to see if anyone has any other thoughts.
Thanks.
