Re: Tiling Shower And Seat

Hey Jaz, I've always loved that Video, the use of drywall screws and the wood waterproofing, and let's not forget the best quote in there.

That's all there is to it.

LMAO, what a HACK.

Gene I can't believe you are that gullible my friend, surely not. Carter is a well known "hack" in the field of tile installation. He is and has been the "laughing-stock" for years. His business is to sell videos and books and information. I hope you haven't wasted your hard earned dollars on buying his snake oil. He is one of those guys that hopes to take advantage of the ignorant and naive. The guy's a politician and a marketer not a tradesman.

Anyway, I'm not claiming to know anything about this. Just wondering

edit: this was also before we knew it was a steam shower

p.s. Starting tomorrow I'm doing a 2-day contractor workshop with schluter systems, because I'm very interested in learning about tiling, especially showers.

NO! Not necessarily.

The reason for having the liner higher than the curb is because if for some reason the receptor drain clogs and the receptor pools full of water, water will then be wicked up the wall by the grout and the thinset under the tile. Thereby saturating the substrate. If the liner isn't above the potential "wick-line" the wall interior can be damaged.

Now I'm just a little curious. Why go against the recommendations of the industry and then try to excuse a bad idea by arguing about it? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Who? Me? I haven't gone against anybody's recommendations since I haven't done a custom shower.

I'd never take on something myself if I thought there was any chance of it not being done properly or to industry standard.

Hence the reason I'm starting a 2 full days workshop tomorrow that focuses on Schluter Shower Systems, DITRA and tiling. I'm interested in being able to do small jobs, or at least know when someone I'm paying to do it is doing it properly.
