If she doesn't trust your opinion and you are the professional, might be time to have a chat with regarding your qualifications if she continues to spec materials she should do the job herself.

Is this possible or will I have problems installing it? thanks guys.
You can use 1/2 inch on the floor as long as it won't be a height issue.

I am sure she got this 'advice' from somebody who told her 1/2 inch is better than 1/4 inch hardi. You can explain to her that hardibacker does nothing to add structural support to the floor for her porcelain tile.

It sounds like a typical misinformed customer. Politely ask her where she heard about using 1/2 inch on the floor. Then you can educate her.

Install 1/2" as per her request. when tile doesn't meet, tearout the rest of the floors and install 1/2" and tile.
